Chairman NEPRA Tauseef Hasan Farooqui and his spokesperson Additional Director General Tariff Sajid Akram said on Jang's inquiry that no amendments have been made in Net Metering Regulations and till date NEPRA has only sought public opinion. Who is It is important to mention here that the proposed changes will affect only 20,700 consumers across Pakistan who have been allowed net metering as per the regulations approved by NEPRANEPRA. It has also been clarified that the proposed amendment will not affect the self-consumption of electricity generated by the solar panels and also will not affect the netting off of the units. These units shall be net-off as per their pre-approved procedure. The amendment to the regulations applies only to additional units sold by net metering customers. It is further clarified that any higher cost to be paid on additional units will be passed on to the rest of the grid consumers. Spokesperson Sajid Akram, Additional Director General Tariff clarified that NEPRA fully supports the Government of Pakistan's solar initiative and thus NEPRA 's net metering regulations have absolutely no impact on the Government of Pakistan's initiative. Again, misquoted in mainstream and social media. Moreover, the expected rate of purchase of solar mega scale by the Government of Pakistan will be much cheaper than what NEPRA is allowing net metering to consumers. NEPRA welcomes input from all stakeholders and any decision in this regard will be taken keeping in mind the public interest after considering the comments, analyses, suggestions and recommendations received from the stakeholders.
