Budget 2026-27 and the Taxation Debate on Solar Panels

Amid the preparations for the upcoming fiscal budget, conflicting reports and discussions have been circulating regarding the solar energy sector:

  • Exemption of License Requirement: The Minister for Energy has announced that the licensing requirement for solar projects of 25 kW and below has been completely abolished.

  • Budget Rumors and IMF Pressure: According to sources, under strict IMF conditions, proposals to impose new taxes or duties on net metering and solar panels were under consideration. However, the latest reports indicate that the Standing Committee on Finance and the government are striving to avoid adding any extra tax burden on solar panels in order to promote eco-friendly energy. The final decision will be revealed in the official budget documents.
