Claim of Reduction in Average Electricity Tariffs and Losses
According to the Ministry of Energy, the ongoing reforms in the power sector are yielding positive results:
Tariff Reduction: Between March 2024 and May 2026, average national electricity tariffs decreased by up to 20%. (A reduction of 31% is claimed for protected consumers, 16% for regular domestic consumers, and 33% for industrial consumers).
Loss Reduction: Distribution Companies (DISCOs) reduced their losses by Rs. 193 billion within one year.
IPPs Contract Revision: Revisions to contracts with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) have resulted in savings of Rs. 3.5 trillion (3,500 billion) in future payments.
