According to the Ministry of Energy, the ongoing reforms in the power sector are yielding positive results: Tariff Reduction : Between March 2024 and May 2026, average national electricity tariffs decreased by up to 20% . (A reduction of 31% is claimed for protected consumers, 16% for regular domestic consumers, and 33% for industrial consumers). Loss Reduction: Distribution Companies ( DISCOs ) reduced their losses by Rs. 193 billion within one year. IPPs Contract Revision: Revisions to contracts with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) have resulted in savings of Rs. 3.5 trillion (3,500 billion) in future payments. Electricity Subsidy for Protected Consumers Will Continue (Federal Minister for Energy) Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari, during a press conference, rejected rumors claiming that the government is ending the subsidy for consumers using fewer than 200 units. QR Code and Registration System: A new registration system has been introduced to ensure transparent delivery of the subsidy. Consumers must link their Computerized National Identity Card ( CNIC ) with their meter via a QR code. So far, more than 2 million single-phase consumers have registered. Number of Consumers and Volume: Over the past 4 years, the number of protected consumers using fewer than 200 units has grown from 9.5 million to 21.5 million. More News about Electricity Tariff The new electricity slab rate will be Rs 13.48 per unit for 100 units, Rs 18.58 per unit for 200 units. Subsidy has been abolished in consumer bills, heavy price of electricity has been set even for those who use 100 units, according to the sources, the price per unit has been increased from 7.74 to 13.48 rupees for the use of 100 units. While those who use 200 units will get 18 rupees 58 paisa instead of 10 rupees 06 paisa. For those who use 300 units, the rate per unit is 21 rupees 47 paisa. Per unit rate of 400 units per month will be 24 rupees 63 paise. Earlier, the monthly rate of 301 units to 400 units was 14 rupees 63 paise. The price per unit for 500 units will be Rs 26 9 paise, for 600 units it will be Rs 27 1 paise and for those using 700 units the rate will be Rs 27 65 paise per unit. Consumption of more than 700 units of electricity will be charged per unit rate of 31 rupees 12 paise.
